The Castle

Razay castle was built over five centuries. It blends Gothic, Neo-Gothic and Renaissance styles. A former stronghold of Montrichard castle, it belonged to the Montpoupon castle family until the 20th century.

Legend has it that one of Leonardo da Vinci's disciples built the castle, and that a cousin of Catherine de Médicis stayed here to be closer to her during her stays at Chenonceau.

From 1939 to 1945, Razay castle was a base for the French Resistance. In the 1960s, it fell into the public domain, before being taken over by EDF, which transformed it into a vacation center for the children of its employees.

In the 1990s, the castle was sold to Mr. and Mrs. Duvivier. The farmhouse was then separated from the estate and the castle became a hotel.

In 2022, we bought Château de Razay with the intention of making it a welcoming place to stay, renovating it as we went along and offering you new services every year.
